“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: ‘What are you doing for others?'” – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Each year, Americans across the country answer that question by coming together on Martin Luther King, Jr., Day in January to serve their neighbors and communities.
The MLK Day of Service is a part of United We Serve, the President’s national call to service initiative. It calls for Americans from all walks of life to work together to provide solutions to our most pressing national problems.

Here are a few ideas for starting your own service project while helping the environment:
- Pick up litter in a park or along a river.
- Clean up debris from the street to keep it out of the storm drain.
- Join a group building a community garden.
- Volunteer with a group that gets kids outside and into nature.
