Where are the Magic Faucets?

Drinking Water Week will soon be underway, May 1-7, and askHRgreen.org plans to fill the region’s water-awareness void by hosting two fun, pop-up events in Hampton Roads. On Tuesday, May 3, they will place two gigantic Magic Faucets, one on the Southside and one on the Peninsula, and Hampton Roads residents are invited to follow the clues to find them between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Measuring approximately eight feet high and featuring a seemingly endless stream of running water, the Magic Faucets emphasize the abundance, reliability and value of the region’s drinking water.

“The Magic Faucets are a great reminder that having clean, safe tap water delivered to your taps isn’t magic at all,” said Julia B Hillegass, who heads up askHRgreen.org, a region-wide environmental public service initiative. “There is an entire system, working behind the scenes, to pull tap water from its source, clean it, test it and deliver it to your faucet for about a dollar per day. That’s the best deal in town.”

Beginning this week, faucet chasers can tune into HOT 100.5, Star 1310, ESPN 94.1,  EAGLE 97.3 and 92.9 The Wave, to get clues on where the faucets will be hidden. Clues are also available at www.askHRgreen.org and on their Facebook or Twitter sites along with all the station’s website and social media sites. The first 200 people to find out where the faucets are located, and show up May 3, will receive an askHRgreen.org reusable shopping bag and water bottle. Additional prizes, such as a four-pack of passes to Ocean Breeze Waterpark, will also be available to those who can crack the Magic Faucets riddles.

Promotion to Raise Awareness of Help to Others, or H20

The askHRgreen.org Magic Faucets promotion is presented in conjunction with Help to Others (H20) and Give Local 757. H20 is a community-based program that assists families who are faced with losing their water or wastewater services due to a financial crisis such as a death, disability or loss of employment. The one-time benefit is made possible through donations.

“Every penny raised for H20 goes toward helping a local family in need, said Hillegass. “Your donation of just $10 or more to H20 on May 3, will help give the gift of water to a local family in need.”

This is the first year that H20 has joined with other local non-profits to participate in Give Local 757, the largest one-day fundraising event in Hampton Roads. In addition to raising awareness about local non-profits and the work they do, Give Local 757 provides an opportunity for non-profits to win additional prizes and awards for donations received on May 3.
