Map it to Wrap it

December is here along with holiday shopping, cooking and friends! One thing I always do before this mega month slips away is a thorough house cleaning. I know that’s generally done in the spring, but for me spring cleaning is a year-round sport!

As I was going through my “catch-all drawer” (don’t laugh, you know you have one, too), I discovered old maps. My husband loves maps, and at one time we collected them like post cards to remember our travels. Now that everyone travels with smartphones and GPS, maps are more for decoration than function. So that got me thinking, what can I do with these cool maps? Immediately I thought of gift wrap. I used to do this very thing with my children’s artwork. What grandparent doesn’t love an original grandchild masterpiece?

So, for all my holiday gifts this year, I am planning on using these old maps. Just think about it, maps are full of fun colors, geometry and are visually interesting. Maps will fit all my gift giving needs: birthdays, graduations, anniversaries, holidays – you name it and an old map can work! Besides, it makes more room in that “catch-all drawer,” and no matter how hard I try, it always gets full and messy. But that is for another time…like one of my many New Year’s Resolutions…and we know how those turn out!

Here’s wishing you some green holiday cheer as we all find uses for the treasure we often find hidden in our drawers!
