Confessions of a (Reformed) Shopaholic

Okay, I admit it… I love shopping! In fact, my husband would probably say I love it too much. We’ll often go to a store in search of an item he needs and I’ll be the one to walk out with something. Don’t get me wrong, you won’t see me on that A&E show Hoarders or anything – I’m not in need of an intervention – I just love a good find! Over the years, however, I’ve redefined what shopping means to me. These days you’ll find me checking out local yard and estate sales on the weekends and I frequently scope out the racks of my favorite consignment stores. You would be amazed at what you’ll find if you just spend a little time browsing.

This migration to the whole “new to me” state of mind got me thinking about hosting an accessory swap. So, a few weekends ago, I had some of my best girlfriends come over for dinner, a little wine, and lots of swapping! We each took a peek into our closets and jewelry boxes and cleaned out all the shoes, scarves, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, bags, etc. that we just didn’t love anymore. Just because you’re bored with it doesn’t mean that someone else can’t give it a new spin, right? I scored some earrings, a necklace, and two pairs of shoes. That’s right, I said TWO! Thank goodness for having a friend with great taste and the same size feet! Want to know the best part? My accessory “swapping” spree didn’t cost a thing!

When all was said and done, we gathered up what wasn’t swapped and donated it to charity. My friends were a bit skeptical about the whole idea of an accessory swap at first, but by the end of the night, we had so much fun that we all agreed to do it again. But next time, we plan to invite more friends to do even more swapping! I guess it’s safe to say, “Goodbye, shopaholic; hello, swapaholic.”
