The Afterglow: Caring for Mr. Jack O’Lantern

JackoLanternWithout a doubt, the most recognizable symbol of Halloween is a pumpkin carved with a grinning jack-o-lantern face. But what is to come of good old Jack on November 1?

Give your ghoulish gourd more purpose by repurposing… into compost!

It’s easy – just remove the lights/candles and any other decorations. It’s not necessary, but if you want to accelerate the rate of composting, cut your pumpkin into pieces or better yet – smash it into bits! Now, just add the pumpkin pieces to your compost pile. Your pumpkin will transform into nutrient-rich compost in no time!

Not composting? No problem! Dig a hole in a garden bed and add the pumpkin pieces, replace the soil, and let nature do its job.

Pumpkin composting is a smashing good time!
