IS YOUR HOME OR BUSINESS A BAY STAR?

We live in a beautiful region surrounded by water. It impacts everything from the food we eat to the fun we have as well as our economic livelihood. Our daily actions have a lasting impact and it's up to us to protect and restore our waterways. It takes a community of individuals making small changes to make a difference. Getting involved in the Bay Star programs is one way you can be part of the effort to protect our region's most defining natural resource, water.

What’s the good, green word?

Summertime means summer storms, right? ⛈And that means our storm drains will be busy. 💦 What can you do to make sure it’s only rain that goes down the storm drain, making its way to our local waterways and the wildlife that lives there?

💩 Scoop the poop! Not just when you’re walking your best furry friend, but also 👉in your own yard!👈
The #1 thing to remember is that #2 doesn’t know boundaries. It can just as easily wash out of your yard and into the street and then the storm drain.

Don’t forget to bag and trash your dog’s waste, wherever it is. 🦮➕🏡

Hoo boy, it’s August, and the bounty of fresh fruits and veggies this time of year is delightful and delicious! Only one issue: They leave lots of peels and seeds and stems in the sink. 🥒🌽🥦🧅🥕

❗️🆘ALERT 🆘❗️

When that stuff is washed down the drain, tidbits tend to cling to pipe walls and then build up over time. That leads to clogs blocking the flow of wastewater and sewers backing up into your home, onto your neighborhood streets, down storm drains and into local waterways.

What’s a simple tool to use? A strainer! Place a strainer in your sink drain to catch any food particles that try to escape, then throw the scraps you’ve collected into your trashcan or compost bin.

Strain your drain, not your pipes!
