What is askHRgreen.org?
We’re glad you asked! AskHRgreen.org is a public awareness program of the 17 local governments in Hampton Roads administered through the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission (HRPDC), which encourages environmental stewardship among all residents here in southeastern Virginia. Work on the initiative began in July 2010 as the askHRgreen.org Executive Committee started to consolidate individual programs begun by HRPDC’s HR CLEAN, HR FOG, HR STORM and HR WET committees into one comprehensive, regional awareness campaign. The idea was to develop a central, go-to resource for everything green in Hampton Roads—from earth-friendly landscaping ideas and pointers for keeping local waterways “debris-free” to recycling tips and simple steps to make local living easy on the environment.
The result is www.askHRgreen.org, launched in June 2011. We hope the site is helpful and that you make us your favorite, like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter, subscribe to our YouTube channel, and tune into our blog, written by environmental experts here in the region. But perhaps, more importantly, we hope you are inspired to start your own little green movement whether it’s at home, in your yard, at work, in the classroom or around your neighborhood.
Financial support for askHRgreen.org is made possible by the following member localities and agencies: the cities of Chesapeake, Franklin, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Poquoson, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Virginia Beach and Williamsburg; the counties of Gloucester, Isle of Wight, James City, Southampton, Surry and York; the town of Smithfield and the Hampton Roads Sanitation District.
