Project type: Plastic Bag Recycling

Come and learn about the County’s Recycling Program and be sure to bringyour plastic bags and we’ll exchange them for a beautiful “Isle Be Green”reusable bag. Limit one (1) bag per household. Families welcome.

When: Friday April 27 from 10 am to 12 pm at DAV Thrift Store, Smithfield Square Shopping Center and 1 pm – 3 pm at Farm Fresh Supermarket, Smithfield

Volunteers will construct climbing and play structures for the Virginia Zoo’s Asian Sun and Moon bears and bearcats (binturong). Volunteers will be lifting timbers 4 – 20 feet in length, cutting the timbers to size,  pre-drilling holes and bolting the structure together.  A familiarity with reading a simple design drawing will be important for a couple of group members. 18 and older only.

Litter and debris cleanup around storm water ponds and ditches in the Princess Anne Commons Area. Project will require individuals to work around the perimeter and along the sloped banks of the ponds and ditches. Recommended clothing:  Wear boots or closed-toe shoes and clothing appropriate for the weather and site conditions. Gloves, long pants, long sleeved shirts, hats, sunscreen and bug spray are recommended. Hip or chest waders may be helpful. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.
