The Great American CleanupTM is here!

The Great American CleanupTM is the largest grassroots community involvement program in the United States. Cleanup events will be taking place all across Hampton Roads, and we hope everyone—individuals, families, school groups, clubs and civic organizations—will pick a project and participate this spring.  If you’d like to propose a project, please contact your locality’s representative.

Where:  Countywide 
When: 8 am – noon (Rain date: March 25)

What: Tour de Trash
Where:  Tour starts at HCCC Office (1296 Thomas Street)
When: 9 am – 3:30 pm
Tour the solid waste facilities that keep Hampton’s trash flowing from home or business to final destination, visit the landfill, the regional composting facility, the waste-to-energy facility, and more. Participants must wear closed-toed shoes and bring a lunch, water provided. Register at hccc@hampton.gov

James City

 4/1 to 4/30 – Litter Prevention Month

What: 37th Annual County-Wide Spring Cleanup
Where:  County-wide
When: Varies
Volunteers will organize roadside and community litter cleanups throughout the month of April during “Litter Prevention Month.” Clean County Commissioners will offer free disposal of collected litter on Saturday April 22 from 7:30am-4pm at the Jolly Pond Transfer Station and Convenience Center. Newport News

What: 6th Annual Campsite Cleanup
Where:  Newport News Campground (meet at parking lot beside Group Site 2)
When: 8:30 am to 3:30 pm
Come help get the campsites ready for the season in this favorite destination for campers who love the great outdoors! Campsite clean-up will consist of trash pick-up in the 188 campsites located in six campground loops and associated areas along the lake. This year’s Great American Cleanup theme is “Clean Your Block Party.” The objective of “Clean Your Block Party” is to encourage local volunteers to build a sense of community pride with their family, friends and neighbors, while making a lasting, positive impact – block by block. Keep Virginia Beach Beautiful will hold their first Great American Cleanup event of the year on Saturday, March 11th. The event begins at 9am at the 18th Street Parklet (between Cypress and Mediterranean Avenues) in the ViBe Creative District. Volunteers can register by calling 757-385-4650.
