Native Plants Shoreline List

Is your shoreline eroding, unsightly or a goose haven? If you said yes, then you need to shore up your shoreline with native plants. Native plants stabilize shorelines and act as a buffer between your yard and the waterway. The roots of native plants filter and absorb polluted runoff and excess nutrients before they enter the water. Native plants also beautifying your shoreline and are low maintenance since they are accustomed to the conditions in Hampton Roads. The natural height and density of native plantings also discourage geese who prefer turf.

Consult this Shoreline Planting List from the Elizabeth River Project to help you choose your plants. Want more help? Contact your local watershed restoration group.
