No, I am not talking about snow just that I have been busy since my appearance on FOX 43’s Hampton Roads Show on Earth Day! I was fortunate enough to be invited during their green week to discuss storm water and what folks can do to help keep the gunk out of our natural waterways. Of course, I brought along one of my painted rain barrels to show the aesthetics, economy and functionality of harvesting your own rain water! You will have to be sure to check out my segment.
Riverfest on the Lafayette was my next event on April 30th which was amazing! If you did not attend you have to make plans to come by next year! There were activities for all ages. Fantastic music throughout the day, free boat tours and total access to the Elizabeth River Learning Barge, WOW!!!
Over 1500 visitors enjoyed RiverFest and got a first-hand glimpse at what it will take to make the Lafayette swimmable and fishable by 2014! In the end it is the little things that make a big difference to our water quality. Less bacteria from pet waste and fewer nutrients dumping into the river through excess fertilizers. All things every one of us can do without much extra effort.
So my plans for this week are to relax and take things easy as I slowly get back to my life here in Norfolk. I am hoping to focus on my yard … continue some of my native plantings and of course I will remember to scoop the poop…because who would want to swim in that!
